Die bislang ausgesetzten Zahlungen an die Vereinten Nationen, respektive das UN-Kinderhilfswerk, werden vorerst wieder aufgenommen, wie Präsident Nicholas Morgan Angel dem UN-Botschafter Jonathan Theodore Sherman vor wenigen Tagen bestätigte. Dieser war an den Präsidenten herangetreten, da der UN-Generalsekretär Ban Ki-moon um Klarheit über die Zahlungen gebeten hatte. Die USA sind der größte Finanzier der Organisation. "Solange der Kongress keine Entscheidung zu dem entsprechenden Passus Public Law 101-246 Sec. 414 (a) sowie zu der Zahlungseinstellung fällt, sollten wir uns unserer Verantwortung stellen. Mr. President hat mich in dieser Einstellung bestärkt" , erläuterte Sherman am Abend. Die Streichung des Public Law 101-246 Sec. 414 (a) wurde durch Zustimmung des damaligen Vize-Präsidenten Angel im Senat angenommen, bis heute steht eine Entscheidung im House aus. Auch weitere Anträge aus dem 17. Kongress infolge der Aufnahme der PLO in die UNESCO wurden bisher im 18. Kongress nicht erneut behandelt.
